Index Ventures is a venture capital investment firm based in Geneva, Switzerland, with offices in London, Jersey, and starting in 2011, San Francisco. The firm was founded in 1996 by Neil Rimer, David Rimer and Giuseppe Zocco. Since its inception, the firm has raised four main venture funds and a growth capital fund with in excess of €2 billion of investor commitments. Index invest primarily in the Information Technology and Life Sciences sectors.[1]

Among the firm's most notable investments are Skype,[2] MySQL, Betfair and Lovefilm. More recently, the firm invested in Flipboard, Factual, Swipely and Cloud.com.

Although based in Europe, Index invests in a number of geographies including Europe, Eastern Europe and Russia, Israel, as well as New York City and Silicon Valley. The firm is considered to have the investment philosophy of a typical Silicon Valley venture capitalist and to have unusually strong business relations in Silicon Valley for a European investor.[3]

In 2007 Daniel Rimer, a partner at Index, was named to Forbes Magazine's Midas List of the world's 25 best deal makers in venture capital. Index partner, Saul Klein is among the most active in the European entrepreneur community. Klein founded Seedcamp to help European entrepreneurs successfully build technology businesses, and also started The Accelerator Group (TAG) as a vehicle for investing in early-stage internet services, e-commerce and digital media businesses.

In January 2008, Index Ventures announced the closing of a €400 million growth capital fund, Index Ventures Growth I, which represents the firm's first dedicated growth stage fund.

In March 2009, Index Ventures announced the closing of a €350 million early stage find, Index Ventures V.[4] Before that, in January 2008, Index announced the closing of a €400 million growth capital fund, Index Ventures Growth I, which was the firm's first dedicated growth stage fund.

The firm's partners include Ben Holmes, Bernard Dalle, Danny Rimer, David Rimer, Dominique Vidal, Francesco de Rubertis, Giuseppe Zocco, Michele Ollier, Mike Volpi, Neil Rimer and Saul Klein.
